The 2012 TENARKY Winter Workshop on Roses will be held at the Cool Springs Marriott in Franklin, Tennessee, the weekend of February 17th - 19th, beginning on Friday evening and concluding at noon on Sunday.  Speakers during the three-day event include:

Keith Zary, acclaimed rose hybridizer, formerly of Jackson & Perkins, will talk at the Saturday evening Awards Banquet concerning “The Ever-Changing (And Shrinking!) World of Roses.”  Richard Anthony and Kristine Vance, dedicated rosarians from the ARS Buckeye District in Ohio, will share their extensive experience, enthusiasm, and knowledge of growing and showing roses in the sometimes difficult northern Ohio locale.

Carol Shockley, noted rosarian and speaker from Conway, Arkansas, will discuss and show slides of new roses available from amateur and professional hybridizers.  Whit Wells, a widely successful breeder of roses from Brighten, Tennessee, will speak about his creations, prominent among which are named for Nashville celebrities such as Brenda Lee and the Barbara Mandrell Family, and are planted in the Nashville Music Garden.

Robbie Tucker, Nashville’s award-winning hybridizer of miniflora and miniature roses (mid-size and smaller blooms) will share the latest innovations, products, and roses available on his popular rosemania.com website.

Cindy Shapton, garden designer and writer from Franklin, Tennessee will present an informative and entertaining talk about roses as one of many “useful and tasty garden plants.”  From her wide gardening experience, she will describe how “A Rose Isn’t Just a Rose,” but also is “an herb that is often overlooked for its medicinal, aromatic and culinary properties.”

Bareroot Rose Sale:  During the workshop, 200 time-honored rose bushes (20 varieties of 10 plants each) will be auctioned in a fundraiser sale, donated by Certified Roses, Inc. of Tyler, Texas.  The company is one of the nation’s largest distributors of classic varieties that are widely grown by the American public.

Beginning on Friday evening with Shapton’s gardening presentation, workshop activities include seminars and lectures during the day Saturday, Zary’s speech Saturday evening, and a Consulting Rosarian School on Sunday morning, in addition to the on-going classic-rose sale.

The public is welcomed to attend this annual weekend event, which includes members of American Rose Society affiliates in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Kentucky.  The registration form and schedule may be downloaded from the tenarky.org website.
